Microarray Analysis of Angiotensin II Early Response.
Diabetes will soon be a global epidemic and effective treatments are necessary. Although not completely characterized, the effects of Angiotensin II (Ang II) correlate with the factors that lead to diabetes. Previous work has determined that within 24 to 48 hours of Ang II treatment, cells increase transcription of lipogeneic genes, including Fatty Acid Synthase, (Fasn) Glycerol-3-phosphate Dehydrogenase (Gpdh), and Leptin (Lep). The purpose of this study is to characterize the early response (4 hrs) of adipocytes to Ang II treatment. Furthermore, the ultimate goal is to generate a comprehensive picture of the molecular responses to Ang II that may make it a pro-diabetic hormone. Additionally, this study will provide insight into two popular methods of microarray analysis and describe their similarities and differences.
